Volunteer in Tanzania

Volunteer applications are now closed for Summer 2024. The Summer 2025 application will open in October. Contact us to learn more about volunteering in 2025 and follow along with us this summer on Instagram and Facebook!

Volunteer in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania this summer with Daraja Music Initiative! Two, three, and four-week sessions are available each summer.

Volunteer openings are available for:

  • Music educators (clarinet/woodwinds, strings, general music)

  • Conservationists

  • Instrument repair technicians.

Music educator volunteers teach group and private lessons to DMI students, perform in community concerts and outreach events, and participate in the conservation of African Blackwood (Mpingo) through community tree plantings and conservation education initiatives.

Program fees include a 3-day, 2-night safari exploring the beauty of East Africa at Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park, and Lake Manyara. See photos from past volunteer safari trips! Fees also cover volunteer housing, all meals and drinking water, as well as the cost of all in-country transportation (including to and from the airport). Volunteers are responsible for the cost of flights, visas, vaccinations, and any other medical needs.
